How to Keep Inspiration Flowing

How to Keep Inspiration Flowing

There are days when we have an overload of ideas and others when there's an absolute scarcity. But how do we ensure we don't lose creativity along the way? One piece of advice I've heard several times is to always write down the ideas we have, no matter how ridiculous, wild, or impossible they may seem. We should write them down without filtering them through the lens of "reasonableness".

Ideas can come at any time and place. To not forget any of them, it's best to put them in writing. It could be a small notebook that you carry everywhere, notes on your phone, or even a chat with yourself on WhatsApp (it's like talking to yourself). It doesn't matter if these ideas are plans, recipes, creations, texts, or of any nature, the important thing is to write them down.

Then, find some time in the day or week to revisit them, think about them, discard them, or transform them into a plan. This step is crucial. It's no use jotting down our ideas if we don't later give them the time to reflect on and decide whether to pursue them or if it's not yet their moment.

I once went to my notebook to write down an idea that was already there. You might realize that there are recurring ideas. These could be the ones that inspire you the most or the ones that truly resonate with your heart's desire.

The first step is to deposit all these ideas in one place. Choose a common location so they don't get lost in different notebooks, files, or post-its. Select a dedicated notebook for this task or a note-taking app on your phone if that's more convenient for you. The key is that it's practical, always at hand, and you know where to go back to find them when you want to review them.

The next idea you have, write it down there. It also doesn't matter if it's about an artistic project or something relevant to your work. It could be an idea to decorate your kitchen, the color of a flower you saw, or a poetic verse. Remember, don't filter them out right away. Let the ideas come, avoid telling them "no", and then take the time to figure out how to bring them to life.

I hope this tool helps you welcome your most wildly creative ideas in those times when we feel blocked.
